In my practice, I offer comprehensive evaluations and individually tailored conservative or surgical treatments. <\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"689\" data-end=\"735\">Reflux: when stomach acid becomes a burden<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"737\" data-end=\"1072\">Occasional burping is normal, but when acidic stomach contents regularly flow back into the esophagus, this is called <strong data-start=\"865\" data-end=\"910\">GERD<\/strong>. Over time, this can irritate the esophageal lining and lead to serious complications such as <strong data-start=\"1013\" data-end=\"1034\">Barrett\u2019s esophagus<\/strong>, which increases cancer risk. <\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1074\" data-end=\"1095\">Typical symptoms include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Heartburn, especially when lying down or after eating<\/li>\n<li>Acid regurgitation, pressure behind the breastbone<\/li>\n<li>Difficulty swallowing, cough, hoarseness<\/li>\n<li>Tooth damage from acid exposure<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1274\" data-end=\"1434\">The cause is often a <strong data-start=\"1308\" data-end=\"1339\">weakness of the sphincter muscle<\/strong> between the stomach and esophagus\u2014often worsened by a <strong data-start=\"1399\" data-end=\"1415\">hiatal hernia<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"1436\" data-end=\"1477\">Hiatal Hernia: more common than you think<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1479\" data-end=\"1726\">A hiatal hernia occurs when part of the stomach pushes through a gap in the diaphragm into the chest cavity. This disrupts the natural closure mechanism between the stomach and esophagus, intensifying reflux symptoms. <\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1728\" data-end=\"1824\">Diagnosis is made through thorough clinical examination and imaging studies such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Gastroscopy<\/li>\n<li>Functional testing (manometry, pH monitoring)<\/li>\n<li>Videokinematic<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 data-start=\"1946\" data-end=\"1998\">Treatment: Individual, stepwise, effective<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"2000\" data-end=\"2321\">Mild to moderate symptoms can often be managed with lifestyle changes (smaller meals, weight loss) and medications. If conservative treatment fails or structural causes like a hiatal hernia exist, surgery may be necessary. <\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2323\" data-end=\"2416\">I perform minimally invasive (keyhole) surgeries using established techniques:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Nissen-Rosetti fundoplication<\/li>\n<li>Toupet fundoplication (partial wrap)<\/li>\n<li>Dor fundoplication<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"2513\" data-end=\"2532\">After surgery:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A swallow X-ray is usually done the day after to check the result and start diet progression<\/li>\n<li>A soft diet is recommended for 14 days, then gradual return to normal eating<\/li>\n<li>Recovery time is generally short, with a hospital stay of only a few days<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 data-start=\"2874\" data-end=\"2920\">Gastritis: Inflammation of the stomach lining<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"2922\" data-end=\"3294\"><strong data-start=\"2970\" data-end=\"2983\">Gastritis<\/strong>, along with reflux and hiatal hernia, is a common stomach disease. It can be caused by irritants such as NSAIDs, stress, alcohol, or <em data-start=\"3109\" data-end=\"3130\">Helicobacter pylori<\/em> infection.
