They occur due to weakness in the vein valves, which can no longer prevent the backward flow of blood caused by gravity. The result: blood pools in the leg veins.  <\/p>\n<p data-start=\"580\" data-end=\"605\">Typical symptoms:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Itching<\/li>\n<li>Heavy, tired, or swollen legs<\/li>\n<li>Nighttime calf cramps<\/li>\n<li>Visible, bulging veins<\/li>\n<li>Skin pigmentation changes\n<\/li>\n<li>In severe cases: eczema or open ulcers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"808\" data-end=\"847\"><strong data-start=\"808\" data-end=\"847\">Diagnosis and individual consultation:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"849\" data-end=\"1225\">In my practice, the process begins with a detailed clinical examination and consultation. Targeted diagnostics are then performed using color-coded duplex ultrasound to assess the condition of the superficial veins and the function of the vein valves. Only if there is significant valve insufficiency and noticeable symptoms do I recommend surgical treatment.  <\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1227\" data-end=\"1271\"><strong data-start=\"1227\" data-end=\"1271\">Treatment: Individual, safe &amp; effective<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1273\" data-end=\"1620\">Surgical treatment is performed in one of three hospitals. Procedures are carried out either by classic surgery (e.g., vein stripping) or by modern methods such as laser or radiofrequency ablation. In many cases, local anesthesia with conscious sedation is sufficient.  <\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1622\" data-end=\"1662\"><strong data-start=\"1622\" data-end=\"1662\">What to expect after surgery:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Usually discharged on the day of surgery or the day after<\/li>\n<li>Wearing Class 2 compression stockings around the clock for 7 days<\/li>\n<li>First follow-up in my practice about 7 days post-op<\/li>\n<li>Then wearing compression stockings during the day for another 5 weeks<\/li>\n<li>Final check-up to assess the success of the treatment<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"2035\" data-end=\"2357\">Aesthetic aspects matter too:<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2035\" data-end=\"2357\">Many patients come with the wish to improve the cosmetic appearance. This is very achievable with modern vein surgery when medically indicated.
