Examinations of the Upper and Lower Digestive Tract: Gastroscopy, Colonoscopy, Rectoscopy, and Proctoscopy

We offer a range of endoscopic examinations to detect and treat diseases of the digestive tract at an early stage.

  • Gastroscopy: An examination of the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum to help diagnose inflammation, ulcers, or tumors.
  • Colonoscopy: This method is used to examine the colon, rectum, and the last part of the small intestine to detect abnormalities such as polyps, tumors, or inflammation.
  • Rectoscopy: A targeted examination of the final section of the rectum to identify conditions such as hemorrhoids, inflammation, or tumors.
  • Proctoscopy: A precise examination of the anal canal and lower rectum to determine the causes of symptoms such as pain or bleeding.

These examinations are gentle and allow for accurate diagnosis, which is essential for effective treatment.

I perform endoscopies at the day clinic of the Wiener Privatklinik. Patients typically spend 2–3 hours with us, recover in the relaxation room after the procedure, and return home after a final consultation where the results are explained in detail.

For patients without private insurance, we maintain a close collaboration with a colleague who can perform the examination promptly on a public health insurance basis.

Colonoscopy (Bowel Examination)

Colonoscopy is an important preventive screening procedure for the early detection of colorectal cancer. During the procedure, polyps can be removed to prevent the development of cancer. It is performed on an outpatient/day clinic basis, pain-free, under sedation.

Gastroscopy (Stomach Examination)

Gastroscopy is an important diagnostic procedure for stomach diseases, where the stomach lining is examined using a camera. If necessary, tissue samples can be taken for further analysis. The procedure is performed pain-free under sedation.

Proctoscopy (Examination of the Rectum)

During a proctoscopy, the anal canal and the lower third of the rectum are examined to detect conditions such as hemorrhoids, anal fistulas, anal fissures, and tumors. No special preparation is required for this procedure.

Rectoscopy (Examination of the Rectum)

During a rectoscopy, the rectum is examined painlessly using a rigid tube to detect diseases at an early stage. Before the procedure, the rectum must be cleaned with suppositories.
